Pilates

Pilates is a unique form of exercise based on the original repertoire of Joseph Pilates. This refreshing and energizing workout aims to improve the body's structure through gentle but focused exercise, rewarding you with a leaner body, more poise, and greater confidence. It improves posture and increases flexibility by strengthening your core weaker muscles and stretching out the overused ones thereby balancing and realigning the body. Regardless of your current level of fitness - from sedentary office worker to fitness enthusiast, Pilates is a safe effective exercise for everyone, even children. It is beneficial for those with general back and shoulder pain and can be used by pregnant women as a great way to stay in shape before and after pregnancy due to its emphasis on core - stability and controlled breathing.


Nutrition Consultation

What you might expect from a nutrition consultation.
  • The process starts with a one-to-one, fully confidential consultation between you and the nutritionist.
  • You will be required to complete a questionnaire prior to the initial consultation and may be asked to seek medical advice to investigate any underlying disease.
  • The first consultation will include a detailed overview of your current health problems, medical and family history, plus diet and lifestyle factors.
  • You will receive a personalised dietary, lifestyle and nutritional supplement programme generated from the information gathered in your consultation and when appropriate, from recommended laboratory tests.
  • Follow-up consultations are usually advised to assess progress and make adjustments.
A professional nutrition consultation will:
  • Assess your current intake of fats, carbohydrates and proteins and identify biochemical imbalances including vitamin and mineral deficiencies.
  • Address dietary and nutrient imbalances that are contributing to your current health problems such as hormonal dysfunction, food sensitivities, reduced tolerance to stress, low energy, poor immunity, behavioural problems, insomnia and infections from potential disease- causing organisms.

Clinical Hypnotherapy

Clinical hypnotherapy refers to the use of hypnosis in the treatment of a range of disorders which are often stress related. It works on the mind/body connection and is gentle and non-invasive, thus allowing the client to unlock his/her huge resources for change and self-healing. It may be helpful for the following:
  • Pain relief - in arthritis, rheumatism, post-operatively, lower back pain and migraine.
  • To boost the immune system.
  • Stress related and psychological problems - addictions, obesity,bed wetting, eating disorders, phobias, panic attacks, mild depression and insomnia.
A number of one hour sessions will normally be required for the above. Smoking cessation, however, requires one two-hour slot.


Life Coaching

What Is Life Coaching?
Life coaching is motivational, inspiring, positive, exciting and action driven. A coach will help you look at where you are now and where you'd like to be, and help you bridge the gap. By raising awareness and encouraging you to take responsibility for you life, a Coach can help you rise to your own particular challenge and go further than you ever thought possible.

It has to be said that Coaching involves a lot of hard work and commitment. However, if you are ready for change, the benefits can be enormous.

Are you right for Coaching?

The only way to be sure is to have an informal talk with a coach. However, the following statements are typical Coaching scenarios.
  • I have pressing issues to resolve but don't know where to start.
  • I seem to spend all my time trying to catch up.
  • My life is so stressed out; all work and no play.
  • I've had a problem or challenge that's been around for a long time, but I've never managed to sort it out.
  • I would just like to run my ideas past someone who is actually receptive to them.
  • I feel isolated in my job but find it difficult to talk to colleagues in case they take it as a sign that I've failed.

What is the difference between Life Coaching and Counselling?
  • Coaching is not a therapy like counselling which tends to deal with past issues such as deep seated emotional problems.
  • Coaching is about looking at where you are now and taking you forward.
  • Coaching can help you deal with a multitude of issues including stress, diet, equilibrium, clearing clutter, assertiveness, relationship issues, finances, social life, time management, career issues, and much more.
  • A Coach will help you to identify and set your goals and encourage you to go for what you really want in your life.
Don't make the mistake of thinking that Coaching is a quick fix. It's not. Coaching is about permanent improvement. It's about examining your values and beliefs, how positive you are about yourself, whether you are holding yourself back, or feel you are one of life's victims. It's about change, leaving your comfort zone and feeling the power of taking responsibility for your own life. It's about achievement.



Osteopathy and Naturopathy

Osteopaths recognise that much of the pain and disability that we suffer from are often a consequence of abnormalities in the body's structure. The body learns to compensate for these abnormalities, and over time these compensations have an adverse effect on other parts of the body leading to further pain and/or impaired function.

Each patient is assessed from a mechanical, functional and postural perspective and appropriate methods of treatment are chosen according to the individual's needs. This gentle manipulation of the musculoskeletal system is highly effective in the treatment of:
  • Back, neck and joint pain,
  • Headaches
  • Sports or dance injuries,
  • General aches and pains (from a weak knee to a bloated stomach)
  • Repetitive strain injury and work related problems
  • Stress
  • Discomfort during pregnancy
  • Childhood headaches, back pain, colic and growing pains
What to expect:
On your first visit a detailed case history will be taken which will not only include questions about the problem that has brought you but also details of your past medical history, your general health and any medication that you may be taking. This helps create a holistic picture that not only looks at the symptoms but also lifestyle to help understand why the problem has arisen. After the case history has been taken an evaluation of your physical condition will be made. This involves postural assessment and observation of how the spine and other joints move. Any appropriate tests will also be performed. Muscle tone and strength may be assessed and joints examined in order to make a holistic diagnosis. I will then discuss my findings with you. If appropriate osteopathic treatment will be given on the first visit. My treatment is very gentle and uses a wide range of techniques to suit the individual's needs. These include deep tissue massage techniques, mobilisation, and gentle manipulation. I also favour the use of cranial osteopathy, a more subtle but very effective technique, which is especially beneficial to children and babies.

Naturopathy
Naturopathy works on the principle that the body can heal itself given the right conditions. In a holistic approach to health, naturopaths give advice on diet, nutrition, hydrotherapy, and lifestyle.



Counselling (Psychotherapy)

Psychotherapists work with individuals in a one-to-one framework where they are able to use their extensive training, knowledge and experience to work with a wide variety of difficulties including: depression, low self esteem, anxiety and stress, life cycle issues, relationship problems, bereavement, eating disorders, addictions, and issues relating to adolescents. It is a process which seeks to help the person gain an increased capacity for choice, through which the individual becomes more autonomous and self determined. They are able to offer both brief psychodynamic psychotherapeutic counselling and longer term psychotherapy. Our in-house psychotherapist Sue is experienced in assessment and referrals can be made if required.
